January 24, 2017

Even healthy teeth sometimes need cosmetic improvement. Smile makeovers from Wilton dentist, Dr. Tom Pastor, enhance marred smiles for a younger look.

Looking and feeling your best partners with how your smile looks. Chips, cracks, stains, crowding–these defects detract from an otherwise healthy set of teeth. With a wide range of aesthetic dental services available from Dr. Tom Pastor at Tyngtown Dental, learn how wonderful your smile can be. A smile makeover in Wilton can change your teeth and your outlook.

What is a smile makeover?

A smile makeover changes the appearance of your teeth and gums. Common cosmetic issues your dentist in Wilton resolves are:

  • Stains from smoking, dark foods and beverages, acidic foods, root canal therapy, prescription drugs or simple aging
  • Chips, hairline cracks, uneven tooth length, small gaps, and minor crowding
  • Multiple restorations, such as crowns
  • Dark fillings

Your highly skilled dentist in Wilton, Dr. Tom Pastor, evaluates his patients for oral health issues and considers their input about aesthetic changes. Then, he devises a treatment plan to address  health needs and cosmetic goals.

After the dentist addresses health issues, he and the patient  work on a  realistic aesthetic makeover. The aim is to complement the person’s facial features and boost self-confidence. Dr. Pastor may present a few options for the patient to consider.

The Smile Makeover

Digital X-rays and photographs are the first steps in a smile makeover. The doctor and patient consider characteristics such as:

  • Tooth length, width and color
  • Enamel texture
  • Amount of gum tissue in the “smile zone”
  • Tooth alignment (crowding, overlapping)
  • Missing teeth
  • Chips, hairline cracks, pits

Then, Dr. Pastor applies appropriate cosmetic services to achieve the desired appearance. Some makeovers require one service. Other plans may employ multiple services for a truly artistic result.

Available Aesthetic Services

Professional teeth whitening brightens tooth enamel stained by smoking, aging, prescription drugs, and dark food and beverages. Dr. Pastor supplies the patient with a customized kit to take home. It contains specially-fitted trays and concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel. Over a period of several days, the patient fills his trays with gel and wears them for a prescribed time daily. The gel lifts out the discolorations, leaving teeth several shades brighter.

Composite resin bonding fills imperfections such as chips and cracks for a smooth, lifelike smile. Dr. Pastor uses a color-matched blend of acrylic and glass to artfully smooth away imperfections. He hardens the resin with a special curing light for a finish that lasts for years.

Tooth-colored fillings restore decayed  teeth or replace dark amalgam fillings. Lifelike in color and texture, these fillings are durable, seamless and require far less enamel removal than their metal counterparts.

Porcelain veneers are customized, thin shells of fine ceramic. Covering imperfections such as discolorations, fractures and unevenness, veneers are a permanent cosmetic improvement involving removal of slender portions of tooth enamel. The dentist takes impressions of the prepared teeth and sends instructions to a dental lab for fabrication of the laminates. He then bonds the new veneers in place with a cement which can be varied in color to blend in with adjacent teeth. Veneers improve the look of one or more teeth, add a measure of durability, and last for years with good care.
